Navigation Redesign - Card Sort
Our client’s site navigation consisted of 7 primary and over 50 secondary items. Additionally, users and internal employees expressed issues with finding content on the site. I led the UX team in optimizing the navigation information architecture in order to enhance both the user experience and search engine functionality.
The research study focused on understanding the goals and journey of those affected by lung cancer and their support networks. Our aim was to uncover users' mental models, exploring how people naturally group and label categories within the lung cancer space, and then identifying priority topics to guide primary and secondary navigation items. I led qualitative interviews and an open card sort involving 40 participants.
The results led to a 26% decrease in secondary navigation items, a 4.5% increase in CTR to support resources, a 16.7% decrease in bounce rate indicating an overall increase in findability.
